The WLA Forum, initiated by the World Laureates Association (WLA) in 2018, is an annual scientific conference held in Shanghai. It is one of the foremost scientific gatherings of prize winners worldwide. This event brings together laureates of prestigious accolades, including the Nobel Prize, the Turing Award, the Wolf Prize, the Lasker Award, the Breakthrough Prize, the Fields Medal, the WLA Prize, the MacArthur Fellowship, the Canada Gairdner Prize, the Kyoto Prize, the World Food Prize, the Eni Award, the Abel Prize and other top scientific awards. The Forum attracts also academicians, senior scientists, young scientists, science-minded students and other professionals across the globe.

The focus of the Forum is to explore the frontiers of basic research, showcase the latest scientific breakthroughs, address common challenges, identify opportunities in international cooperation, reform the talent training philosophy, develop research paradigms and strategies requiring significant change, and publish critical scientific achievements and theories. The Forum provides a crucial platform for laureates from around the world to connect and engage in meaningful discussions, particularly in response to current and foreseeable global challenges.

President Xi Jinping of the People's Republic of China conveyed a letter of congratulations to the 2nd WLA Forum in 2019 and addressed the 3rd WLA Forum through a video message in 2020.

Registration Terms and Conditions

The 2024 WLA Forum (hereinafter referred to as the "Forum") is organized by the WLA Shanghai Center (hereinafter referred to as the "Organizer") from October 25 to 27, 2024, in Shanghai.
We cordially invite you to participate in the 2024 WLA Forum. Prior to registering, the Organizer kindly asks all participants to thoroughly review and confirm the following terms and conditions for a seamless experience at the Forum.

2024 WLA Forum Registration Secretariat

For any registration inquiries, please reach out to the 2024 WLA Forum Registration Secretariat (hereinafter referred to as the "Secretariat") at registration@wlaforum.com.cn.

Registration and Fees

All participants must complete the registration process via the online registration platform. The registration fee is as outlined on the website. All fees should be paid in the Chinese Yuan (RMB/¥), and any associated transfer charges are the participant's responsibility. The registration fee covers applicable taxes, including a 6% Chinese Value Added Tax (VAT), which is mandatory for all successful registrations.
Secure online payment options (WeChat Pay or Alipay) are available.
For payments via bank transfer, please upload the payment confirmation letter on the registration system. Such registration will be confirmed upon receipt of the relevant proof.
Should the participant encounter any issues with payment, please contact us at registration@wlaforum.com.cn for assistance.

Invoicing

Invoices can be requested starting from October 28, 2024, through your Personal Center on the online registration system. The Secretariat will process your invoice request within 10 working days. It is important to note that the invoices generated by the Forum will be in electronic format, with the invoicing details based on the information provided during the submission of such request. The invoice will be sent directly to the email address provided during registration (in the case of Group Registration, it will be sent to the designated email under the Group Leader). Should the participant encounter any issues such as non-receipt of the invoice or if modifications are required, please contact us at fapiao@wlaforum.com.cn.

Discounts

The 2024 WLA Forum offers a Student Discount, a Group Discount, and an Early Bird Discount. These discounts will be automatically calculated by the system before payment upon completion of registration via the online system. Should the participant have any questions regarding the discounts, please send an email to registration@wlaforum.com.cn. Participants who meet the conditions must upload relevant materials as per the Organizer's requirements to obtain the discount. Please refer to the specifics outlined below:
Student Discount: Undergraduate and graduate students (enrolled at the time of registration) should upload their valid student IDs under Student Registration to qualify for the discount. If they submit a false, invalid or someone else's ID, the Organizer retains the right to decline participation, blacklist such individuals, and pursue legal action upon verification.
Group Discount: Groups comprising no fewer than 5 individuals from the same organization or institution can choose Group Registration and appoint a Group Leader. Each member of the group must submit relevant identification documents, such as work IDs and other official materials proving their identity. If any member submits a false, invalid or someone else's ID, the Organizer retains the right to decline participation, blacklist such individuals, and pursue legal action upon verification.
Early Bird Discount: The Early Bird Discount is applicable to participants who complete their registration before September 15, 2024. The opening dates and times for Early Bird Passes are subject to adjustment, with specific details available on the Forum's official website.
Stacked offers: The discounts can be combined if all conditions for each offer are met.
The Organizer reserves the right to the final interpretation of all pass and discount offerings.

Registration Cancellation, Transfer and Refund

All requests for cancelling or transferring registrations should be sent via email to the Secretariat at registration@wlaforum.com.cn.
• Prior to September 25 0:00, 2024, the participant may request the cancellation of their registration with a refund of the remaining amount to the original payment account after a deduction of a handling fee of 600 RMB per person.
• Between September 25 0:00 and October 15 24:00, 2024, the participant may request the cancellation of their registration with a refund of the remaining amount to the original payment account after a deduction of a handling fee of 800 RMB per person.
• Between July 25 12:00 and October 8 24:00, 2024 registration slots may be transferred only once, subject to the following rules:
➢ All transfer applications must be submitted before October 8, 2024. Any transfer application submitted after this date will not be considered.
➢ Regular Registrations can be transferred to any designated individual.
➢ Student Registrations can be transferred to any designated student.
➢ Group registrations cannot be cancelled and refunded for individual members.
All refunds will be conducted in the Chinese Yuan (RMB/¥) within 30 days following the conclusion of the Forum. Refunds will be in made the original payment method, with any applicable bank charges deducted from the refund amount.

Forum Cancellation or Schedule Change

If the Forum is canceled due to any force majeure events or reasons beyond the Organizer's control, the registration fee will be refunded, minus any applicable bank charges. The Organizer will not be responsible for any additional costs or losses incurred, including transportation, accommodation, financial repercussions, etc.
The Organizer reserves the right to adjust the Forum schedule. The currently advertised dates are tentative. If the Forum is postponed or rescheduled, all participants with Forum Pass(es) will have the option to attend the Forum on the new date. Under such circumstances, if a participant is unable to attend on the revised date or prefers a refund, please email registration@wlaforum.com.cn within 10 working days of such official announcement. The Secretariat will process the refund within 10 working days upon receiving such request. If a participant chooses to re-register after receiving a refund, the new fees may apply.

Forum Program Change

The Forum program is subject to changes as the Forum preparations progress. These modifications may include changes to session titles, dates, times, locations, speakers, presentation topics, meeting formats, availability, and other details. The final Forum Program will be based on the actual program implemented. Changes to session bookings resulting from such adjustments will not automatically trigger conditions for refund. Below is the specific policy regarding such modifications:
• Changes in session dates, times, and venues: Participants will be notified of these changes via text message. Generally, the original booking will remain valid, and participants can attend the session at the updated date, time, and venue. If the participant is unable to participate due to these adjustments, please email registration@wlaforum.com.cn, and the Secretariat will assist in personal rescheduling based on the latest session bookings.
• Changes to session speakers and presentations: The session title will typically remain unchanged. If there are changes to speakers or presentation topics, the original booking will still be retained.
• Session Cancellation: If a specific session is canceled by the Organizer, alternative options from other sessions on the same date will be made available, subject to seat availability at that time. If the participant is unable to participate in any of the alternative sessions, please contact registration@wlaforum.com.cn, and the Secretariat will provide information on the refund process.

Forum Materials Usage

Participants are strictly prohibited from copying, translating, creating derivative works, modifying, or profiting from any Forum material(s) without prior consent from the Organizer. Unauthorized use of any Forum material(s) may lead to legal consequences and the Organizer reserves the right to seek compensation for any infringement.

Photography and Filming

Photography and filming will occur throughout the Forum. By registering, the participant consents to the use of your image(s) by the Organizer for promotional purposes, both currently and in the future, without any entitlement to compensation, unless they explicitly express their refusal to have their image used by the Organizer by sending an email to registration@wlaforum.com.cn and opt-out from participation (subject to the Registration Cancellation, Transfer and Refund policy). To uphold privacy, such images will not be associated with full names or personally identifiable information unless the participant provides written approval. During such events, individuals often use their mobile devices for photography or filming, and the organize will not be responsible for monitoring this activity, but individuals intending to photograph others are expected to obtain permission from the filming subjects.

Assumption of Risk, Waiver and Release

All participants should understand that their participation in any Forum activity is entirely voluntary. By registering, all participants acknowledge and agree, to the maximum extent permitted by law, to assume all risks of personal injury, property damage, or death that may arise during the Forum. All participants hereby waive and release the Organizer, sponsor(s), venue, and their respective employees, contractors, representatives, agents, licensees, successors, or assignees from any and all claims, demands, legal actions, lawsuits, damages, losses, responsibilities, costs, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees), whether disclosed or undisclosed, anticipated or unanticipated, and in connection with any Forum-related activities.

Liability and Disclaimer

In the event of government intervention, military action, strikes, or any situation that renders it unfeasible or undesirable to host any Forum activity at the scheduled time and venue, participants hereby agree to waive any claims for damages. Neither party shall be held liable, past, present, or future. Participants acknowledge that they waive the right to claim compensation from the Organizer in case of unexpected political or economic events, force majeure events, absence of speakers, or alterations to the schedule for any reason. By registering, participants implicitly agree to this provision. The Organizer is not responsible for any bodily harm, death, property damage, or travel disruptions caused under all circumstances unless they result from illegal actions on the part of the Organizer.

Force Majeure Events

Force majeure events encompass a range of circumstances, such as wars, riots, terrorist activities, industrial actions, natural or nuclear disasters, adverse weather conditions, epidemics, pandemics, health hazards, fires, airport closures, airspace restrictions, government actions, and administrative prohibitions. These may include restrictions, recommendations, guidelines, and measures issued or advised by (public health) authorities.

Participation Guidelines and Regulations

During the Forum, all participants are expected to comply with the guidelines and instructions, encompassing safety, health, and security directives, as designated by the Organizer or any pertinent third party. If wearing a badge is essential for safety purposes, all participants are obligated to visibly display their badges throughout the Forum. Badges are personal and cannot be transferred. Badges must be worn with real names and remain unaltered. Taking security checks prior to entering the Forum premises is mandatory, and any personal property loss on-site is the sole responsibility of the participant.

Data Protection and Privacy

Data of each participant will be used to create their accounts on the online registration system, allowing access to features in their Personal Center. Data may be collected and stored by third parties on the online registration system. During registration, the participant will be prompted to agree to the terms and authorize the use of their information. While participants may receive Forum-related push notifications, they retain the option to opt out of such alerts.
